My grandmother, Elvin
"Taking its name from my grandmother, Elvin, I wanted to honour her memory by nodding to both heritage and the sustainable future I believe we should embrace when creating and repurposing clothes"
About
ForElvin is a dressmaking atelier, offering bespoke clothing designs, alterations, and repairs with a focus on sustainability. You are invited to experience a personalised fitting in my homely and relaxing studio, where your comfort is priority.
I am your dressmaker, and my name is Hannah Svedberg. I am passionate about crafting unique pieces that reflect your individual style and personality, ensuring you will treasure these and hopefully one day hand them over to someone else to be loved.
I began sewing at a young age, inspired by my mother and grandmothers. At 18, I started worked as an apprentice to a wedding dress designer, where I learned the art of dress and pattern making.
Years later, after studying fashion design and tailoring back home in Sweden, as well as in Florence and London, I spent over 15 years working as a designer in the fashion industry, specialising in red carpet and luxury brands. I have designed and worked on clothes that has been worn by Nicole Kidman, Elizabeth Hurley and Kim Sears, among many others. Over time, however, I felt a strong desire to return to hands-on craftsmanship and to create work that supports the planet, rather than contributing to an industry driven by overproduction and unsustainable demand.
In 2022, ForElvin was born. Taking its name from my grandmother, Elvin, I wanted to honour her memory by nodding to both heritage and the sustainable future I believe we should embrace when creating and repurposing clothes — bringing dressmaking into the modern world. Since starting ForElvin, I have made alterations and bespoke designs for Jenna Coleman, Stef Williams, Martha Ward and Nassia Matsa, as well as for many local residents in Clapham and South West London.
